Dental Sealants

If your child is decay-prone, your Tacoma dentist at Advanced Dental Care may suggest applying a sealant to the occlusal surfaces of the back teeth. This is an inexpensive procedure hat creates a barrier against food, bacteria, and plaque — very effective at preventing decay in these highly susceptible areas. A sealant is a thin layer of composite material that is literally painted on the teeth. First the dentist will clean the grooves of plaque and food debris; then he will fill in the grooves and defects with the sealant. Sealants should be done as soon as possible after the baby and permanent teeth erupt. They will periodically have to be redone.
